Since the start of the pandemic, product options have become limited. Most businesses have decided to focus only on essential products to cut costs. So it comes as a great surprise that the new 2020 Proton X50 will be offered in four versions – Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship. The Malaysian carmakers shared that all 4 vehicle engines would be equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline direct injection three-tube mill. All Proton X50 variants come with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to provide power to the front wheels. The new X50 is the second collaboration between Geely and Proton. The first was from the X70 series last December 2018.
Each version has a different feature:
- The Standard version has 17.0-inch wheels, full LED headlights, fabric seats, rear air vents, and four airbags. It also has an 8.0-inch wide touchscreen information & entertainment unit which also works as a reverse camera.
- Upgrading to the Executive version includes six airbags, front fog lights, leatherette seats, automatic headlights, and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel.
- To elevate the Premium version, they included a tire pressure monitoring system, and driver-side powered seat. They also made everything bigger with 18-inch wheels, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, and a 360-degree camera system.
- An advanced driver assistance system, panoramic roof, upgraded engine power, and dual-tone exterior is exclusively built for the Flagship version.
The 2020 Proton X50 is updated with a modern look. They’ve built a floating touch-screen entertainment display that provides a contrast from the colors of the dash. All the features of Geely’s models, such as the 10-inch entertainment unit and the Geely Smart Ecosystem (GKUI), are included in the 2020 Proton X50 model. It currently does not support Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
The exterior of the Proton X50 is similar to Chinese brand Binyue but incorporates distinct Proton designs. Buyers can expect signature Proton design features like the infinite weave pattern on the grille and the Ethereal Bow. Pre-launch photos revealed that the X50 will also sport the TGDI badges on its front doors. The new car model also has a panoramic sunroof available for the range-topping variant. The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) includes Lane Departure Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Blind Spot Detection. Disc brake calipers for all four wheels on the new model are available in red exclusively for higher-spec versions.
Since the Proton X50 uses a 24+18 push-button type, drivers may have a hard time fitting hybrid wiper blades. An ideal replacement for the X50’s windshield wipers is 4S Professional Extreme Silica Series II wiper blades. 4S Professional produces high-quality car products like engine oil, car detailing microfiber, and car batteries.
